Rewind: March 2026
I’m not sure how to start when describing the month of March. In a lot of ways, it was “the worst of times” seeing as the month started out with my partner losing his job. But it’s also been . . . a pretty great month if I don’t factor that in? The weather has (mostly) been awesome. Everything is blooming. It’s so green and pretty here! The birds are chirping, and it just feels so dang good to be out of the slog of the winter months. We also had March Madness, always a favorite in a Sports House, and the return of Sunday Funday (that sometimes are more like weekend long fundays) with friends. Here’s a look at our month:
Impromptu Chicago Trip
My stepdaughter came for a visit at the end of February. She wanted to have her car with her, but wasn’t comfortable making the drive the whole way by herself. Since my partner was working in Illinois, he made arrangements for a one way rental for himself and for her to meet him at his jobsite so he could help her with the drive the rest of the way home. The plan was to do the reverse once it was time for her to return. Then . . . he lost his job. So we had to get her back with her car and him home as well (without spending the money on a rental . . . since it was no longer being expensed.) Which is how I ended up making the trip with them the first week of March! It was very last minute so we didn’t have time to really plan anything. I took next to no pictures, and we didn’t really do anything other than stay up way too late both nights we were there. But it was great to see and spend time with family!
ARKANSAS WINS THE SEC TOURNAMENT!
For the first time since the year 2000, our Hogs won the SEC basketball tournament. We had a blast watching the games. We invited friends over that Sunday. Here’s what’s funny about watching current Hog Ball in Memphis: John Calipari is our current coach. Memphians hate Calipari dating back to 2008 when he left the Tigers for Kentucky, taking several players with him, after falling to Kansas in the NCAA championship. No one holds a grudge like a person from Memphis so he is still absolutely abhorred here. Of our friends who came over, only one was a fellow Arkansas fan so there were a lot of people secretly . . . or not so secretly . . . pulling for Vandy in that game. But the Hogs prevailed, and the people who actually live in my house were so, so happy.
Another Permit Secured

My girl got her permit in March! She’s still six months away from being able to get her license, but we’re so glad to have passed this milestone. After the test, we celebrated with margaritas (for mom,) a virgin daiquiri (for the new driver,) and Mexican food. Mexican food is forever my girl’s love languate.
Spring Break
Not much of a Spring Break for me as I still went to work every day, but the kids all had a week out of school. The boys went to the beach at the end of the week, and sent me exactly zero pictures worth posting.
March Madness
We filled out our brackets . . . and put a huge one on our wall . . . and waited to see how our Hogs would do. They made it to the Sweet Sixteen but getting Arizona in that game was a tough draw. Really, though, it was just fun to spend the weekends with friends watching the games (not so fun the first Sunday for our friend who is a Florida fan . . . )
Tiptoe Through the Tulips

One Saturday, the weather was gorgeous and my partner and I spent about an hour wandering through the Dixon Gallery and Gardens (we had coffee in hand so just stuck to the gardens.) This was our first time ever doing this little Memphis treasure, and I’m not sure why. It was SO gorgeous. We will be back, without a doubt.
Prom
Prom was the last weekend in March, and my son went with a group of his friends. He actually told me he was going on TUESDAY when the prom was on SATURDAY. This is also so much less of a bigger deal than it was when I was in high school, or it’s a wildly different experience for boys than for girls. I also received exactly ZERO pictures of my child dressed up for prom (he got ready at a friend's house then “forgot.”)
It really was a best of times, worst of times type of month! In April we have a 16th birthday, a beach trip, and lots of graduation planning!
